Many people are becoming more environmentally conscious about their wedding days and are subsequently having more “green” weddings. A green wedding cuts much of the associated waste that would be generated from the planning and execution of a wedding ceremony out with the intention of keeping the ceremony ecologically positive for the planet.

The most popular means of having a green wedding involve cutting out much of the material waste involved. Many brides, for instance, purchase second hand wedding dresses to help recycle the material. Many wedding parties are now notified about saving a date or the specifics of bridal events via electronic notification instead of paper invitations. Even streamers and other decorative materials can be from 100 percent recycled content.

The benefits of a green wedding can not only be seen in the reduction of waste, but in the reduction of cost. Saving on sending out engraved invitations, buying an expensive brand new dress, or using tons of decorations can help the bride and groom have a little more money to spend on something else, like a honeymoon in a wonderful place in nature.

I love to garden.  It’s part of my artistic background showing through.  My garden is mostly perennial flowers with an emphasis on roses.  But because of my climate, tea roses aren’t reliable so I grow English roses.  My English rose season is already mostly over but despite a short blooming season I still love these flowers.

One of my favorites is the famous Rosa Mundi.  I don’t know if it’s the unusual striping that intrigues me or the story behind the flower.  Legend has it that the rose was named after King Henry the II’s mistress the fair Rosamunde.  The rose is a Gallica rose, semi double and has fantastic fragrance.  What I like best about it is that each rose’s color and striping is different.  Funny thing is that it took 4 years before I got my first bloom.  I was about to dig up the shrubs and toss them when the blooms came on and I was well rewarded for my wait.

I’ve got a great Dad and I love to let him know how much I care on Father’s day.  Some years I pander to his ultimate interest - golf.  My Dad loves golf and now that he’s retired, he plays 3 or 4 times a week during the best of the season.  So what could be better than a nifty new golf accessory for his bag or golf cart?  I’ve gotten him everything from a fun animal golf headcover to more serious gifts such as a golf gps unit.  No matter how fun or serious it is, he just loves it.  This year when you get something for ‘dear ol’ Dad’ get him something that he really wants - he’ll love you for it.

Do you know someone who’s planning a wedding?  This is high season for brides, grooms and weddings.  I’ve been married for more than 20 years now.  So the concept of wedding favors wasn’t something that was in vogue back when I was married.  Now we did get bridesmaids gifts and groomsmen gifts.  But favors for the guests?  Is not an invitation to the reception enough?  Maybe I’m a bit old fashioned.  I suppose I am.  But with all the expense that a wedding entails, it seems that there would be a better spend of money than investing in favors.

I am happy to live an art filled life.  But when I say that I am not limiting myself to classic art or a more standard definition of the term.  For me the art filled life can be totally encompassing, whether I’m looking at the art of Nature or the beautiful art that children really are.
